Churches in Soweto

Orchard: Africa - bringing sustainable change to rural African villages.

To protect the vulnerable by developing and equipping the local church to be the response to poverty and injustice. The church is our platform, programs are our tools and hope in Christ is our message. A few people from a local church decided to cook a pot of food and feed these children. For the first ten years Orchard grew from being a church-led feeding project for thirty children, to becoming a multi-programmed response to the daily social and economic injustices that plagued vulnerable individuals in Africa. The next 15 years of our existence saw Orchard grow beyond being a church mission program to a registered ministry in its own right. Orchard: Africa moved beyond the town of Mafikeng, grew exponentially, and extended its reach to over 600 community churches and 100 funded programs in sub-Saharan Africa. These men and women are passionate about our cause and skilled in organizational leadership. Developing sustainable solutions to present and future needs is essential to protecting the vulnerable. We equip the local church to respond to critical needs: Ministry, Education, Food Security, and Care. Every dollar given has a tangible impact and we cannot thank our partners enough for the contributions made on a daily basis to bring lasting change to vulnerable African communities. Check out the amazing things our partners are responsible for and find out how you, too, can own your impact. Orchard: Fundraisers are a passionate and thriving group who use their time, talents, and creative spark to champion our cause to the world. Fun is the name of the game, and the impact is immense as you bring your friends & family into your cause. Orchard: Journeys is where life change is not a concept, but our promise as you join us on the ground in South Africa. You’ll experience a new world of adventure and hands-on impact. The journey isn’t just the trip, but the new life you get to live. She simply wanted to wake up from the bad dream that her life had become. Bubble gum and tape were all that stood between 38-year-old Zelda Matembu and the cold rain which was determined to penetrate through the holes in the tin roof of her tiny shack. Gogontle Mogapi is five years old and lives in Top Village with her seven year old brother, Bakhena. Sustainable ministry requires that there is always a new generation of leaders being developed to follow in the footsteps of their mentors and pastors.
